自分自身が生き物である以上、その肉の檻から出られないように、使った時間を取り戻すことも、時間の外へ出ることも許されない。
虫も人も草花も、皆、生きた肉を抱えて同じ時間と空間のうちにあり、それぞれの刻を使い果たしてゆく。
一度交わった時間は戻らない。けれど、なかったことにもならない。
この本は、そこかしこに零れ落ちた時間の欠片を拾い集めたものである。

All living things share a single planet within the irreversible flow of time.
So long as we ourselves are living beings, just as we cannot escape the cage of our own flesh, neither can we reclaim the time we have spent nor step outside time itself.
Insects, people, plants and flowers alike carry living flesh, existing within the same time and space, each using up the span allotted to it.
Once time has been shared, it cannot be brought back. Yet neither can it be made as though it never existed.
This book is a collection of fragments of time, gathered from where they had fallen here and there.
